Azri Malek Wan Haron
Azri Malek is currently the Principal & Founding Partner of Malek, Paulian & Gan, a boutique law firm based in Kuala Lumpur, specializing in Corporate, Construction & Property related transactions.
Early Life & Career
He graduated from Cardiff University in 2008, and admitted as a Barrister-at-Law of Lincoln’s Inn in 2009. He was elected as the Regional Chairman of Wales at United Kingdom & Eire Council of Malaysian Students. At university, he was awarded the Cardiff Law School Scholarship and the Edgar S Buckprize by Eversheds in recognition of his academic performance. He commenced his legal practice in the Corporate Commercial Division at one of the largest law firms in Malaysia, Zaid Ibrahim & Co and Wan Haron & Associates for few years before establishing Malek, Paulian & Gan in 2014.
Outside of practice, he regularly devotes his time to social activism – especially in youth empowerment projects. Internationally, he has served at humanitarian project in Ghana with Challenging Height NGO. He currently serves as the head for legal bureau, Angkatan Muda Keadilan Selangor. Previously a director at Projek Kalsom, he is also currently a board of trustee at Kalsom Movement NGO, the largest and longest running student movement in Malaysia.
“To whom much is given, much is expected”. These words represent his belief that has driven him to set up Small Changes in 2011. He actively recruited talents and has expanded volunteer pools worldwide, namely in UK, US, Egypt and Malaysia. Under his previous presidency, Small Changes has channelled hundred thousand of funds in several volunteering projects in Malaysia.
Azri Malek is now an advisor at Small Changes, and is a prominent figure that has shaped Small Changes into what it is today.
Nur Aliaa Marizan Nor
Currently a managing director at S.I.T Schiffs- & Industrie Tecnik (M) Sdn Bhd, an engineering company specialised in developing technologies for fuel treatment systems.
Early Life and Career
After receiving her early education in Johor Bahru, she furthered her studies at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She then graduated with Bachelor of Economics (Hons) Majoring in Islamic Finance in 2009. Her career development at S.I.T Schiffs- & Industrie Tecnik (M) Sdn Bhd encompasses a wide range of divisions. She was involved in Marketing & Business Development, Accounts & Finance, Human Resources and Administration before being entrusted as the General Manager, overseeing the overall strategy, operations & direction of the company.
A fearless team player with strong leadership, she co-founded Small Changes in 2011. As a former Vice President in Finance & Operations, she has ensured financial sustainability through securing funding from various sponsors. With undivided dedication, he has brought great achievements in Seeds of Deeds Fundraiser, the core annual event to raise funds for Small Changes projects.
Nur Aliaa Marizan Nor is currently an advisor at Small Changes and she has played a pivotal role in strategic development of Small Changes since its inception.
Professor Dr Shameem Mohd Rafik Khan
Dr. Shameem is a professor at UCSI University and is currently the Dean of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts Faculty. She is specialised in applied linguistics and is involved in a number of applied research projects as well as consultancy research of national and international importance.
She gained her B. A. in Linguistics in and M. A. in TEFL from the University of Southern Illinois, USA. Upon returning, she began her academic career as a lecturer of English for Specific Purposes at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) from 1985 to 1990. She then joined Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (now known as Universiti Putra Malaysia) as a TESL lecturer. Dr. Shameem then furthered her studies and was awarded Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics & TESOL from the University of Leicester, UK in 1997.
Dr. Shameem has more than 130 published works; amongst them are 6 edited books and 40 book chapters. Complementary to this , Dr. Shameem has delivered 20 keynotes, plenary and featured speaker papers at international conferences held in Malaysia and abroad. During her academic career, which has now spanned a period of over 30 years, Dr. Shameem has thrived to contribute to the body of knowledge in the area of Applied Linguistics, Professional Practice and English Language studies within the national and international contexts.
Dr Vahid Nimehchisalem
Dr. Vahid Nimechisalem has been involved in English Language teaching since 1994. He is a senior lecturer in English Language Department, Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication at University Putra Malaysia (UPM) with specialization in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). He is currently a chief editor for the International Journal of Education and Literacy Studies that has published over 100 impactful research articles from all continents of the world.
On graduating from University of Azerbaijan, Iran in 1997 with a BA in English Language Literature (Hons), he continued his studies at Tabriz University in MA in English Language Teaching. He started his career in Malaysia in 2008, and in 2011, he was awarded PhD in TESL from UPM. His project investigated the analytic scale for argumentative writing of students in Malaysian public universities.
During his time as a senior lecturer at UPM, he has presented at 5 seminars, and many conferences including as a plenary speaker at the International Graduate Conference 2013.
He is actively involved in journalism and is currently serving as the co-president for Australian International Academic Centre, a publication and education centre based in Melbourne, Australia. He is also a board member at Voices in Asia Journal, a journal in English language teaching. Dr. Vahid Nimehchisalem has received numerous research awards in Malaysia and internationally.
