Aspire To Inspire

In line with our value of empowering communities through education, Project Aspire to Inspire (ATI), focuses on a specific subset of the Malaysian demographic. Our past ATI projects were mainly focused on Orang Asli communities in states such as Johor and Pahang. However, starting from 2019, we identified a need to work together with refugee communities, who make up 0.5% of Malaysia’s population.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Malaysia has a total of 150,739 people of concern (PoCs) with 25,499 under the age of 18.

Despite the increasing number of refugees coming to Malaysia, the law prohibits refugee youths from attending Malaysian public schools.

As a result, most refugees are unable to secure a proper or decent-paying job and continue to live in poverty with no hope of changing their lives around

Keeping in mind that continuous development is crucial particularly for toddlers and adolescents, ATI has the capacity to provide aid in terms of learning. Our learning modules are curated according to the specific needs of the target community. In the long run, ATI has the potential to bridge Malaysians and refugees, especially through the process of raising awareness.

As such, the main objectives of ATI are as follows:

  • To help improve the lives of refugee youths through better quality and access to education.
  • To raise awareness about the refugee community and refugee youths living in Malaysia.
  • To prepare the refugee youths for better career prospects in the near future.
